Mariah Carey's new film Precious has won the People's Choice Award at this year's Toronto International Film Festival. The film, which was co-produced by Oprah Winfrey & Tyler Perry and also features rock star Lenny Kravitz, premiered to positive reviews at the Sundance Film Festival last January. It tells the story of a troubled teenage girl who is pregnant and illiterate. Precious hits theaters in November. "I made this film for every person out there who ever looked in the mirror and felt unsure about the person looking back," said director Lee Daniels. "This is not an art film for a select few. This is a movie that everyone can relate to." The People's Choice is TIFF's top award and comes at a busy time for Mariah. Not only has she received considerable buzz for her role in the movie, but she also has a new record titled Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel due September 29.

MARIAH'S 'LOVE IS' DEBUT, OPRAH INTERVIEW

Mariah is gearing up for a busy week that includes the release of I Want To Know What Love Is and an interview and performance on 'Oprah'. Last week, Mariah touched down in Las Vegas. Carey performed at the Pearl Theater at the Palms, the Obsessed diva graced the stage both Friday and Saturday night (9/11 and 9/12). Mariah will return to Vegas in October for another two show stint. Vegas aside, billed as the lead single from Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, I Want To Know What Love Is debuted at radio on Monday and was released yesterday on iTunes. Carey's debut of I Want To Know What Love Is will then be followed with an anticipated appearance on Oprah. Both performing and sitting down with the NAACP Image Award winner, Carey is expected to shed light on the new album and what the future holds for her. Carey's appearance on 'Oprah' airs Friday, September 18th.
